Fragaria Vertical Farm — Food Industry | Chennai & Bengaluru, India
Challenge
Scale from pilot to full farm while keeping a stable micro-climate across day/night operation, balancing high latent loads (ET) and LED sensible loads. Target setpoints: 24 °C / 70% RH (11 h) and 16 °C / 80% RH (13 h).
Aephion’s Approach
Layout & capacity: 6 sections; 4-level racks; 2,000 linear meters total.
Ventilation & distribution: 15 ACH with “one orifice per plant”; lateral ducts reduced 100→80→60 mm to maintain velocity/flow along the rack.
Fan design: section ΔP ≈ 1.7 kPa; ~5.8 kW per section.
HVAC pre-sizing: for 2,000 linear meters, ~217 kW cooling.
Results / Impact
Energy: −31% HVAC vs. baseline (excl. LEDs).
Scale: 2,000 linear meters across 6 sections (modular growth).

Challenge
Meet Ecuadorian emissions limits with variable waste streams and existing infrastructure at ~2,700 m a.s.l., keeping OPEX low and maintenance simple.
Aephion’s Solution
Process design: Spray tower with 1″ full-cone nozzles, target droplets 100–500 µm, plus demister; operating targets L/G ≈ 1.2 L·m⁻³ and ΔP < 500 Pa.
Hydraulic integration: Cooling tower → spray headers → reservoir → pH neutralization pit → return, with dedicated pumping.
Implementation: Scrubber located by the stack building; supply/return lines sized to site runs.
Operations & maintenance: Delivered User Manual and Maintenance SOP (rounds, corrective tasks, logs).
Results / Status
Engineering & documentation completed (Design, Proposal, User Manual, SOP).
Ready for fabrication/installation with Aephion support and performance validation during startup (accredited lab).
Targets: PM 80–95% and acid-gas reduction using alkali (NaOH/Ca(OH)₂/Mg(OH)₂).
